If we were to write an book of classic makeup styles we can say we’d devote an entire chapter on creating the perfect cat-eye. We love a smoky winged liner, the cat eye style isn’t universally applicable. It’s crucial to take the shape of your eyes into consideration when making the look with the waterproof eye pencil or eyeliner. The method is the same for all, however the lines’ thickness and how long the wings may vary. For help in determining the best way to apply a cat’s eye to your particular eye shape (read the following: hooded, upturned downturned, monolid and much more) Keep following for more makeup tips and styles from the makeup of celebrity artist Elle Leary and Emily Oliver.

The eye makeup’s dramatic wing can often widen your already wide-set eyes. Reduce the impact by keeping your wings short and pointed upwards. “I like to keep the eyeliner on the waterline,” Oliver says. Oliver. “When working with a liquid eyeliner, I extend the line inward a beauty bit at the inner corners of the eyes to create intrigue and balance the look.” For liquid eyeliners, we prefer the Infallible Grip from L’Oreal Paris. Precision Felt eyeliner.

Similar to how you’d like to draw your wide-set eyes inwards, you’ll wish to stretch your eyes with a close-set outward. Create a sleeker line longer, more long and slightly horizontal, so that it broadens the shape of your eyes. “I like to line the waterline of the top lid,” Oliver says. Oliver. “Make sure that you don’t apply the liner all up to the corners of your eyes. Focus the eye outwards to let the eyes open.” For this method we suggest applying the Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner that is extremely well-pigmented and lasts for a long time.

For eyes with smaller pupils, try blurring the line a little — a precise line could make eyes appear smaller. “Oftentimes I’ll forgo a pencil and use a liquid eye shadow, such as the Giorgio Armani Eye Tint Liquid Shadow in 10 Senso,” Oliver says. Oliver. “This gives the effect of sparkle and gives structure without closing the lid. If you’d like to apply beauty waterproof eye pencils make sure you line the waterline on the top lid , and then press the pencil into the lashes that are on both lids.” Smoke out the wing, giving it an edgier look which expands the eye area.

The more thick the liner is, the better for eyes with hoods. “Because the lid is hooded, if you do a small line you will never see it when you open your eyes,” Oliver says. Oliver. Make use of The Maylline New York Eye Studio Hyper Easy Liquid Eyeliner using an angled brush for perfecting the cat’s eye. Oliver suggests getting under the cover to let the liner perform to its fullest. “I’ll get under the top lash line and into its waterline to add some balance,” she adds. “I also love to smudge the line outward a little for a sexy, smoky cat eye.” For small and hooded eyes, Leary also suggests forgoing eyeliner for the bottom line of the lash, since it makes the eyes appear smaller. “Instead, just keep it at the outer edge of the bottom lash line.”

To emphasize an almond shape and make the eyes appear larger and longer, Leary says to keep the line slim across the first two-thirds the eye. “At that point, intensify the thickness and finish with a semi-dramatic wing at the end,” she advises. To achieve this look beauty, Leary also recommends bringing the liner to the lower lash line to emphasize the cat-eye look. We recommend using IT Cosmetics Superhero No-Tug Sharpenable Gel Eyeliner to create a seamless application.

Eyes that are turned up have a similar shape to almonds, however they are naturally lifted in the corners of their outer edges that pull them upwards. This makes them perfect for cat-eyes. “Follow the natural uplifted shape and work the liner outward toward the temple,” Oliver advises. Oliver.

Eyes that are downturned tend to droop a bit at the corners on the outside, so wings are ideal for creating a natural, lifted look. “The trick here is to start the line much higher than you would think,” Oliver says. Oliver. “Try leaning your head back and making a line that points at a 45-degree angle, starting from the middle of the eye outward toward the temple.”

Since this shape of the eye does not have a crease, you should maintain the liner’s position as closely as is possible as well as opt for a long, thick wings. “It really helps to give the eye some definition, shape and length,” says Leary. To make a perfect line, apply the beauty eyeliner’s base using a liquid formula. If you’d like your eyes to appear more round and more like dolls, Leary suggests keeping the liner longer at the center of your eye and shorter on the side. “This will create the illusion of an eye that is more curved.”
